Clean air awareness campaign

Phase 2 of Healthy Waterways London will create an awareness-raising campaign about air quality and health, for people living aboard boats in London. This will be co-designed with the boating community.

The Healthy Waterways community survey revealed that air quality ranks lower than other environmental and sustainability issues as a matter of concern or consideration among London’s boating community. This is despite air pollution still having a pervasive and significant impact upon health and wellbeing.

There are things we can all do to reduce air pollution and our exposure to it, whether we live on a boat or in a building, and however we travel around and heat our home.

We are creating an awareness-raising campaign to highlight the importance of clean air for good health and the action we can take for better air quality. Many other air quality campaigns have failed to consider the unique lifestyle of live-aboard boaters, and the messages and advice have either been insensitive or irrelevant for the circumstances and challenges faced by boaters.

For this reason, the Healthy Waterways project will create an awareness-raising campaign designed through participatory co-design.

This phase of the project will be led by Iram Quraishi. Iram is a Programme Director at Loop Labs and has extensive experience delivering community-led sustainability projects to improve quality of life and community wellbeing.

Iram will be hosting three co-design workshops starting early in 2026. To join the mailing list, register your interest in the co-design workshops, or simply to share your thoughts, concerns and ideas, please get in touch via the Loop Labs website.
